Originally I had a goofy fake bio posted here as a sort of protest to a lot of the pretentious statement pages of other artists’ websites. In my case, I just don’t see where any personal information about me is going to shape your opinion of one of my pieces. And I’m not going to get into the philosophy or ethos of my work… it’s sports art: I like to draw what I see and then hope that some obscenely rich guy with bare walls in his finished basement/bar wants to become my benefactor. That’s my ethos, right there.

I’ve been drawing ever since I can remember, went to Syracuse University to study illustration for three drunken semesters, then dropped out for a variety of reasons, among them the idiocy of paying $25K a year in 1990 dollars to be an art major and my galactically shitty GPA in response to the disillusionment that caused. The beer and the sleeping late didn’t help, either.

I became a working stiff after leaving Syracuse, then I went back to school just to get a degree at the end of the century (Framingham State College, this time majoring in English), and graduated in 2001. I don’t do anything artistic as part of my job.

I hold no insights on art and my works make no statement other than I think the subject matter looked cool at the time. I do believe there’s something to be said for glorifying the human form during physical activity (centuries — or millennia — of similarly-themed art seems to validate this), and ultimately, that’s all I’m trying to do. People like to look at artwork of athletes who have done amazing things.

I take commissions and I’m reasonably priced (as far as art goes). Almost all of the pieces displayed on this site were done on commission, and if you’re interested in my services, I can be reached at info@kevinmcneil.com. Feel free to contact me with any questions, I thank you for your time, and the capital of Nebraska is Lincoln!
